Slovakia The Slovakian Government has recently revamped its policies in Science and
Technology with the inception of new the act for the Slovak Academy of
Sciences. The new policy is focused towards improving the quality of
products which are already marketed by Slovakian companies and to create new
companies which will develop novel products with a global focus. A new
industrial policy is also underway with the same idea in mind. A new Scientific and Technological Information Centre which will help
Slovakian companies and other research organisations to establish cooperative
opportunities with international research groups and to do foresight studies in
emerging technologies is underway. Nanotechnology is slowly establishing
itself in Slovakia with the presence of companies such as the RT Group, Ltd.,
which is a developing company working on carbon nanotubes and carbon
nanocrystals. The Slovak Academy of Sciences has created a new Network of
Excellence called NanoSmart which is multidisciplinary in nature and comprises
more than 60 researchers from different departments and organisations looking at
areas such as ceramic nanocomposites, metallic materials, semiconductors and
superconductivity.
