Abstract: The Secretariat for Planning and Policy of the Argentinean Ministry for Science, Technology and Productive Innovation has prepared a statistical overview of nanotechnology in the country. It includes in information on relevant companies and research organizations and funding. An analysis is made of publications, patents and a prospective study on nanotechnology in Argentina. (In Spanish)
Summary: The FAN (Argentinean Foundation for Nanotechnology) has identified 22 companies active in nanotechnology of which 18 are included in the report. Furthermore, there are 27 research organizations active in nanotechnology research. The funding for nanotechnology is made available through FONTAR (Argentinean Technological Fund): 3.8 million pesos for 12 projects in 2006-8. In 1997-2006, 17.7 million pesos was made available to 103 projects via the Fund for Scientific and Technological Research FONCYT. Between 2003 and 2008, the number of nanopublications increased from 3% to 4% of the total number of scientific publications in Argentina. The number of organizations active in nanoresearch increased from 43 to 67, and they collaborated more. From the 50 or so nanopatents registered in Argentina in 2007-9, 35% were submitted by US applicants and 9% by Argentineans. 80% were registered by companies, 16% by research centres and 4% by universities. 47% of the nanopatents were for nanointermediates, 31% for nanoproducts and 22% for nanomaterials. MINCYT carried out a prospective study until 2020, including a part on nanotechnology in which Argentinean and Brazilian experts participated. The potential application areas were diverse.
